The focus of Manhattan Law Lab is to provide guidance and support for attorneys with a passion for community service and the ambition to start a solo practice.
Although the essence of developing a solo practice is self-sufficiency, MLL's philosophy is "Go solo, but with guidance," and to that end, the incubator has sought to foster a sense of community and cooperation. This includes giving mentors and participants a place to communicate and share ideas about law practice management, legal strategies, and business philosophy. It also gives participants a sense of stability during times of uncertainty and solitude.
Participants will work directly with pro bono and low-income clients through the incubator's referral program, in addition to juggling all of the administrative tasks and legal know-how required to launch their solo careers. Participants put theory into practice by working with clients and learning what it's like to be a solo attorney.
Participants' will gain practical experiences included dealing with difficult clients, seeking advice from mentors and colleagues, and eventually serving vulnerable populations in need of legal assistance
